TVRM Railfest Pictures

The Norfolk Southern Operation Lifesaver GP38-3 was one of the attendees of Railfest. This was really neat to see and maybe next year the OLS Dash 9-40CW will be here. Taken September 3, 2011 Copyright Signal Light Productions

Chattanooga & Chickamauga sent one of their GP38-2s to TVRM for the weekend. Notice how it doesn't have dynamic brakes. The C&C is a subsidiary of the Genesee and Wyoming.  Taken September 3, 2011 Copyright Signal Light Productions

Norfolk Southern also sent Southern 4610. To celebrate Southern's 100th anniversary, this EMD GP59 was painted Southern green and is the closest thing NS has to a heritage unit. This locomotive was originally a Hi-Hood meaning that the short hood seen here extended to the top of the cab roof. Taken September 3, 2011 Copyright Signal Light Productions

This is a view of the other side of 4610. It is really a shame what poor condition the gold paint is in. Hopefully when NS repaints this engine it will still be green, not black. Taken September 3, 2011 Copyright Signal Light Productions

Norfolk Southern was kind enough to send two of their executive F Units used on the Office Car Special (OCS). This train is for NS executives to get around and one of the cars it pulls can also be used for testing track geometry. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

Another shot of the NS F Units. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

A head on view of NS 4271. This is a somewhat rare view as normally, they are running and you can't get this close to them. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

Similar to the picture above, at a slightly different angle. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

The conductor's side of 4271. These are really pretty locomotives. By far the prettiest diesels around. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

A head on view of Southern 4610. You can see a good bit of rust and even some damage on the plow. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

A front shot of 5826. From the front, it looks just like any other Geep. It was a good idea for NS to upgrade it to Dash 3 electrical standards. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

The C&C's 2050 looks great in the morning sun. It is unusual looking without the plow though. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

NS 8080 doesn't look bad for a GEVO. This unit was brand new at the time this photo was taken. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

Another view of the new ES44AC. The NS lettering looks really good at night since it is made of reflective tape. The paint is still nice and shiny. It won't stay this clean for long.  Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

TVRM had Gramling Locomotive Works bring Lehigh Valley Coal Co. 126, an 0-6-0T to pull the Tunnel Turn trains which stopped over Tunnel Boulevard. The black smoke billowed out of the stack. The former L&N coach dwarfs the little switcher and she had a hard time pulling the two coaches and caboose up the grade near Hunziker curve. Taken September 3, 2011. Southern 6133 is an EMD FP7 and was used to pull the Missionary Ridge Local. The spark arrestors on the exhaust stack look neat. This unique view is from the upstairs of Grand Junction station. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

Southern 630 steams around the wye at Grand Junction before hooking up to the 21st Century Steam train's cars.  A couple seconds after the photo was taken, the bell got stuck. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

630 going through the sharpest part of the curve. The was a little bit of creaking of the rails. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

After the 2:00 excursion, 630 took its cars to the siding at Allied Metals to get them out of the way of MRL trains. After our train cleared, she went to Grand Junction for people to take pictures. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

Here is 630 sitting at Grand Junction as mentioned above. After we passed, Ryan took her over to East Chattanooga for the night. Even after two trips on the NS main and going 40 MPH, her wheels and steam chests are still shiny. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

A rare view of NS 8080. It was pretty cool eating lunch on a GEVO. The tread up here on the nose is better than that on the deck, which in my opinion is worse than those on GP7s from 60 years ago. Come on, GE... Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

One of the highlights of the evening was the World's Largest Moon Pie. It was really yummy. At 5 feet in diameter, it weighed about 65 pounds. The Railfest logo turned out great and within two hours, the whole pie was gone. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

The GP38-2 the C&C sent was their Zero Injuries unit. While nothing too flashy, it is still a little nice that it is different from all others. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

The inside of NS 4610's cab. This is the conductor's side as the engine runs long hood forward. Normally this would be then engineer's side. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions

The Southern logo on 4610. The gold paint is in terrible condition, but the green is spick and span as can be. The sunset looks pretty between the R and N. Taken September 3, 2011. Copyright Signal Light Productions
